Sangria is right up there with tequila as one of those alcoholic beverages that it seems everyone has a story about. It's always either a "I'll never drink that again" story or a "well last time I had that things got a little crazy" story.
As much as I like the potent, red wine version of the Spanish summer sipper, there is something about white wine (and of course, plump red strawberries but that goes without saying around herre) that screams summer and tempts me to shelve the red vino until September.
I have no aversion to sangria (tequila is another story) but even if you do, I recommend that you give this a try. My friend Angie and I made a double-batch for a friend's birthday party over Memorial Day weekend and it would be an understatement to say that none of the party guests have sangria aversions either.
Tequila? That might be another story for another day.
White Strawberry Sangria
Adapted from Better Homes & Gardens
What you need:
1 750-milliliter bottle dry white wine, such as Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc
1/2 cup strawberry schnapps
1/4 cup sugar
2 cups sliced fresh strawberries
Ice cubes
Whole strawberries (optional)
What you do:
In a 2-quart pitcher stir together wine, strawberry schnapps, and sugar until sugar is dissolved. Add sliced strawberries. Cover and chill for 1 to 4 hours. Serve in glasses over ice. If desired, garnish with whole strawberries. Makes 5 servings.
That looks so refreshingly good. I have always thought of sangria as a heavy red wine--this looks amazing.

This looks so good. Too bad I've already gone through all of my strawberries! I like to make a peach sangria with white wine in the fall...I love how the fruit taste really comes through with white wine.

This looks amazing. I've actually never had Sangria, though I've often been in its presence. It doesn't normally look as good as this.

I am 100% sure that I will need to make these at some point over my weekend. They look delicious and nothing says summer like using fresh berries.

Strawberry gets shortcaked:) Sounds so refreshing, you could pair this with your yum Bruschetta with Peach Salsa & Brie. And thank you for leaving our friend Jose out of this:)

Tried this recipe last night, but I could not find strawberry schnapps for the life of me. So I used peach schnapps instead, and it was fantastic! Thanks!
